Our degrees are theological, practical, and affordable. They take seriously the hopes and experience that adults bring to their studies. They reflect a broad vision of ministry, which holds that it is practiced in explicitly ecclesial contexts--in parishes, schools, diocesan offices--and beyond wherever people of faith live and work. Offered through Loyola University New Orleans, an accredited Catholic and Jesuit institution, our degrees create intentional learning communities, include formation in Ignatian spirituality, and teach a model of theological reflection that together help you develop practical ministry skills for the Church and the world. We have also begun a new focus area in digital culture and ministry.
Loyola offers affordable advanced degree programs:
- Master of Religious Education (M.R.E.)
- Master of Pastoral Studies (M.P.S.)
To better serve Church and world, the Jesuits and Loyola University New Orleans are committed to making ministry education for the laity affordable and accessible. Our graduate tuition of $409/credit + fees through the 2016-2017 school year reflects this commitment. We offer additional limited financial aid for those involved in ministry in the Archdiocese of New Orleans to take courses on campus. We also offer courses at the certificate level.
Why On Campus?
Studying on campus, you are immersed together with faculty and classmates in exploring theology and spirituality against the backdrop of our city. It is not only religiously, culturally, and historically rich but also the site of challenges faced by all cities today, challenges crying out for a response from people of faith formed intellectually and spiritually. You will take advantage of the vibrant cultural and intellectual life of a Jesuit and Catholic university with its lectures, libraries, liturgies, and artistic offerings. You will form a diverse and often ecumenical in-person community of faith and learning. Come and visit us!
Our online degrees are rich, convenient and flexible. You will study with students from around the world. You need never come to campus, or you may combine online with on-campus credits to complete your degree. Most of your coursework is asynchronous, which means that you do not attend a regularly scheduled class but instead do your work on your own schedule: day, evening, or night.
The Loyola Institute for Ministry has enriched the life of the Church in New Orleans through its on-campus degrees and other programs here for over forty-five years. We have offered distance learning programs for more than twenty-five years, and online classes for the last ten. We have the technological, pedagogical, and theological expertise to deliver degrees that are educationally excellent and personally transformative.
