Achievements

Alumna Skya Abbate has committed herself to lifelong learning and achivement. In May 2020, she earned a Doctorate Degree in Bioethics from Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics & Healthcare Leadership at Loyola University Chicago. She has also recently published articles in diverse journals.

LIM graduate and adjunct faculty member Deborah Wilhelm, D.Min., is featured on Catholic Women Preach, a project whose aim is to share thoughtful, theologically grounded, and accessible preaching by women who are responding to Pope Francis' call for the baptized to be more engaged in the Church's preaching mission. View the video GO»

On January 14, 2022, Professor Tracey Lamont delivered the inagural presentation in Cabrini University's spring 2022 lecture series, Shoulder to Shoulder. Her presentation, titled "Mission Integration in a Pluralistic World," was half-day workshop for faculty and staff. Its focus was on how the faculty and staff can celebrate and integrate Catholic identity, diversity, equity, and inclusion in the university’s activities.

Guilherme Lopes, MPS, has served as the Director of Campus Ministry at Cabrini University since October 2021. For the spring 2022 semester, he created a Catholic Lecture Series. Each speaker will use Campus Ministry’s theme, Shoulder to Shoulder, as their foundation for their presentations. Austin Suggs, host of Gospel Simplicity, welcomed LIM Director Tom Ryan to discuss the ways Medieval thinkers approached Scripture. The discussion, titled "How Aquinas and Medieval Theologians Read Scripture," can be viewed on YouTube.

On November 23, 2021, Emily Demoor, Ph.D., will give the keynote address at the Loving the Planet Symposium sponsored by the Project for the Study of Love in Religion at Regents Park College, Oxford, the Oxford Centre for Religion and Culture, and the Caritas Center at Brescia University. Online attendance is free. As part of a cohort of religious sisters in East Africa studying Catholic social teaching and UN Sustainable Development Goals, Sr. Teresia Mbugua shares her learnings with the novices she mobilizes to advocate for an end to domestic violence. The Global Sisters Report recently published her article "Teaching about Domestic Violence in Tanzania."

Carrie Golden Lambert, MPS, is Youth Director at St. Mary Basilica in Natchez, MS, but her roots run deep in Louisiana, too. When she saw the devastation wrought by Hurricane Ida, her instinct was to help immediately, and members of her local community were eager to assist in relief efforts. Members of the LIM community can join the ongoing outreach to communities destroyed by the storm, whether in person or remotely, as she and her team of volunteers will be going to Luling, LA, every 2 weeks with supplies. Dr. Ansel Augustine had his article "It Took a Village: The Refuge That Was St. Peter Claver Catholic School" in the Spring 2021 issue of Momentum, the magazine of the National Catholic Education Association. The article pays tribute to the school and also highlights the need to support and preserve safe spaces for Black youth. Read the article here.

"Social Traps and Social Trust: Institutional Transformations in an American City following a Natural Disaster" is the issue of the New England Journal of Public Policy guest-edited by Michael Cowan, Ph.D. The articles in this issue examine the lessons learned from pursuing institutional change in the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina in New Orleans.
