Dr. Michelle Collins joined the Loyola University New Orleans community as Dean of the College of Nursing and Health in 2021. Dean Collins is a registered nurse and a clinically practicing certified nurse-midwife. She obtained her Diploma of Nursing from St. Anthony School of Nursing, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Rockford College, her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) focused on nurse-midwifery from Marquette University, and her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.  

 

Dean Collins comes to Loyola New Orleans with prior teaching and leadership experience as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Rush University College of Nursing, and prior to that as Director of the Nurse-Midwifery program at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. Dr. Collins serves on a number of national committees and has particular interest and expertise in the areas of nitrous oxide use in childbirth, waterbirth, co-sleeping, simulation in nursing education, interprofessional education, and cervical dysplasia diagnosis and management.
