Dr Cynthia Collins, Associate Professor of Nursing in the College of Social Sciences presented her research at the annual conference of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA) that met in Chicago in September 2013. Her work, “The evolving role of sons in the health promotion of their elderly parents”, represents a secondary analysis of the data from her larger qualitative study on the well-being of older persons and social support as an influence on health-promoting behaviors (Collins, 2002).
On November 14, 2013 the School of Nursing, in the College of Social Sciences will host the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), XI PSI Chapter annual research day in the Danna Center. With members in approximately 490 chapters, throughout 85 countries, STTI supports learning and recognizes the intellectual and professional achievements of nurses making a difference in global health. Diana Elwell, a BSN-DNP student, has been awarded the 2013 Hill-Rom Doctoral Scholarship in association with the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) in the amount of $4000. The mission of the ENA Foundation, established in 1991 by the Emergency Nurses Association, is to provide educational scholarships and research grants in the discipline of emergency nursing. The foundation achieves its mission by accepting contributions to fund academic scholarships, continuing education and research grants.

The Nursing Economic$ Foundation supports graduate nursing education by awarding up to four $5,000 scholarships each year to registered nurses in a Masters or Doctoral nursing program with an emphasis on administration or management.

Nasima Khan, currently pursuing a MS in Counseling, has been awarded this year's International Student Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded each year to a student in F-1 status, with a 3.0 minimum grade point average who has demonstrated significant contributions to cultural understanding and awareness at Loyola. Financial need and academic merit are also considered. The recipient is selected by a committee of faculty, staff and students.
