Achievements

Counseling Department faculty Dr. Thomas Foster was recently awarded an internal grant from Loyola to assist with his student-faculty research. Dr. Foster is currenlty researching wellness and psychosocial stages of development in college students. Graduate students Lynsey Hinnenkamp, Laura Pignato and alumna Ariann Evans are also involved in the project and hope to publish their findings in the near future.

JoAnn Otts, MSN, RN (Sedona, AZ), a Post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice student was selected from a national cohort of students from over 400 schools to serve as one of six doctoral student representatives for a two-year term of the national Leadership Council of the Graduate Student Academy (GSNA).  She will be involved in strategic planning to support the graduate students in nursing from across the country.  Ms.

October 2015 has been an amazing month for the Loyola University New Orleans School of Nursing. Three prestigious and highly competitive awards have been bestowed on our DNP students, reflecting the stellar work of our students, faculty, staff, and students. Please join us in congratulating the recipients of these awards. 

Karen Wyble was named as Chief Executive Officer at St. Martin Hospital in Lafayette, LA.  Ms.

She will also reach out to the greater community including the local diocese, the college’s many community partner organizations, the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady, and the family of services throughout the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System.

Join us in congratulating three students from our Counseling Department & Play Therapy Center for Education & Research who were accepted to present their research ideas at the Association for Play Therapy International  Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

Recent graduates Caitlyn Galjour and Stephanie Spengel, together with professor Thomas Foster, have completed an empirical study that was accepted for publication by the Journal of Adult Development. Their manuscript is titled "Investigating holistic wellness dimensions during older adulthood: A factor analytic study." Congratulations to Caitlyn, Stephanie, and Dr. Foster on this impressive achievement!

Graduate students Lynsey Hinnenkamp and Laura Pignato, and alum of the program Ariann Evans (who is currently pursuing doctoral studies) have been involved in Dr. Thomas Foster's year-long Research Practicum course here at Loyola. The group was recently accepted to present their ongoing empirical research at the 2016 ACA conference in Montreal, Canada. Their presentation is titled, "College Students' Wellness and Development Treated using EMDR and ACT." Congratulations to Lynsey, Laura, Ariann, and Dr. Foster! 

The Counseling Department faculty will be traveling to Philadelphia this fall to participate at the national conference of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES). All five full-time faculty members have been accepted to present at the conference. Their presentations are listed below:
